Centralized heating with HP on Multifamily building!

By: Belén Delgado

In a move towards pioneering new standards for energy efficiency, Vaillant, under the leadership of Germán Almendáriz Jiménez, proposed an innovative building solution at the IV Almost Null Energy Buildings Congress. This solution is a first of its kind in the country, aiming to revolutionize the current status quo in terms of building comfort.

The proposed solution relies on a centralized system powered by a geothermal heat pump and underfloor heating, combined with a decentralized ventilation solution with heat recovery. It aims to address all parameters of hydrothermal comfort, healthy air, and increased freedom in design and decoration of homes.

A practical example of this application is the Calanda Homes development in Madrid. The project successfully implemented a system with cascade heat pumps. Its major advantages include maximum energy efficiency, flexibility for simultaneous heating and cooling, reliability, longer lifespan than systems with a reversible refrigeration cycle, and lower maintenance costs due to minimum refrigerant charge.

The 10 heat pumps are intelligently managed using a Vaillant control panel, considering numerous parameters for optimal efficiency and safety. This system is a major step towards achieving the highest energy rating and other sustainability certificates, thus promising an environmentally-friendly future for building and construction.

In essence, this project showcases an interesting signal of change by combining renewable energy, maximum energy efficiency, and ultimate comfort in high-rise residential buildings. Despite the high initial cost, the significant reduction in energy consumption and long-term savings demonstrate the viability and potential of such innovative systems in the construction industry.
