An alternative to air-source heat pumps, which are sometimes considered noisy and not neighbor-friendly, could be a new innovation from the Fraunhofer Institute. It involves solar thermal facade elements consisting of ultra-high performance concrete. The elements are crisscrossed with channels through which a solar fluid flows and absorbs heat that comes either from solar radiation or from the environment. This heat is transferred to the heat pump circuit via a heat exchanger. Currently, the new facade elements are still in a test phase. The Fraunhofer Institute has not yet provided any information on when the elements will be launched on the market and at what price.
