The Royal Tropical Institute (KIT), Amsterdam's largest national monument, has turned a new leaf in its sustainability journey. It has boldly swapped its old gas boilers for heat pumps, stepping into a fossil-free future.
The underground heat and cold storage (TES) used by the heat pumps minimizes the impact on the building's interior installations, preserving its historical elements. The renovation is being carried out by Linthorst Techniek, experienced in delivering gas-free heating and cooling in existing buildings, including heritage structures. This transformation serves as an inspiring example for other monuments aiming for sustainability.
