Old Coal plants have a new role in the green energy transformation. Since they are already wired to the electric grid, they are the perfect site for solar farms saving both time and money on infrastructure and construction. In Illinois, at least nine coal-burning plants are on track to become solar farms and battery storage facilities within the next three years, and states such as Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado and Minnesota are following suit.
