Smart toilets to become part of personalised healthcare

Loo design has barely changed in 150 years – until now. Will people trade their privacy for the chance to find out exactly what is in their waste?

A number of manufacturers see opportunities in the toilet of the future. Smart toilet innovators believe the loo could become the ultimate health monitoring tool.

In 2018, Panasonic launched a smart toilet in China that tested urine and tracked body fat.

Toto showcased at CES 2021 their new health-analyzing Wellness Toilet. Its a concept product that will scan a user’s body and waste to provide recommendations to improve their health. The analysis will be obtained with the help of sensors and other sensing technologies to deliver results and feedback that can be monitored through an app, so users can then make daily changes to their dietary habits and watch change happen in real-time.
